my e-commonplace book

While in Thailand, I became powerfully aware of the contrast between the predominantly compact and graceful Thai people, notably the young women, the most beautiful I have ever seen, and most Caucasian tourists, who increasingly struck me as large, pale, fleshy, sweating, clumsy, clueless, loud, bulging, ill-dressed, thick-boned, red-faced, lumbering, hirsute, and dull. I concluded that there is no reason for any human to take up more space than the average Thai or to be less delicate.
